THESIS BOOK

THESIS PROJECT OVERVIEW: URITHI
The concept of my Thesis revolves around my African Heritage by showcasing the beauty and richness of Africa through design. Titled URITHI, meaning Heritage in Swahili, this project embodies aspects of a rich African heritage, fused with modern design principles and premium craftsmanship. It serves as a contemporary re-interpretation of African fashion and cultural identity.
Rooted in storytelling, Urithi blends traditional African aesthetics with refined design techniques. Through the different learnings and adoption of various design components, there’s an incorporation of traditional elements like beadwork, use of traditional hand-woven African fabrics, intricate fabric manipulation, sculptural silhouettes, and references to traditional beauty practices. Each piece reflects a deep respect for cultural preservation, while embracing innovation and modernity.
As a designer, this thesis has allowed me to express how culture can be expressed through fashion in meaningful and relevant ways. It represents a journey of self-discovery and creative growth—aan opportunity to share my heritage while connecting with a broader audience through elevated design.
Throughout the development process of this collection, I have faced the challenge of balancing complex design ideas with time sensitive production designs. To address this, I have focused on creating purposeful, high-impact pieces that reflect my aesthetic while remaining feasible within project constraints. Each design decision is intentional, ensuring that the final body of work is cohesive, powerful and true to my vision.
Urithi is positioned within the Luxury and Haute Couture market—defined by exceptional craftsmanship, cultural narrative and artistic integrity.
